Wireless Communication for Fire Detection Systems in Commercial Areas

Fire Alarms are widely used and have become a standard household safety device in many countries. There are various different types of fire alarms and each of them has their own pros and cons. In order for the fire alarms to work efficiently, their placement becomes very important. While this is good, it still left with a potential problem. In a big house or building, when one of the alarms is ringing, it may not be able to give sufficient sound to warn distant people immediately. Consequently, users might not be notified early enough and thus exposing them to danger. The simple way of solving this problem is to realize a device that not only solve the problem, but also enhances the functionality of the fire alarms. More specifically, the device is aided with the capability to alert smoke alarms in other areas of fire, and at the same time is notified when a fire breaks out in another zone. The Proposed system consists of two major components Radio Frequency (RF) module and Smoke Detector. The aim of the project is to combine RF transmission with smoke detection to provide fire detectors the ability to work as a network. When fire has been detected by one of the detectors, it would send a signal via RF transmission to other detectors, with the same RF module, in the building while at the same time activating its alarm. On the other hand, when the fire detector receives signal from other detectors in the network, it then activates its own alarm immediately. The integration of Wireless devices in hazard detection systems and especially in fire detection systems leads to the possibility to extend beyond buildings without external wiring on existing surfaces and to save enormous networking costs as well as to reduce business lost due to the installation of detectors.
